Nina Shengold does things with words.

Books:  Clearcut, a novel (Anchor Books), a Book Sense Notable selection; River of Words: Portraits of Hudson Valley Writers with photographer Jennifer May (SUNY Press); and fourteen  theatre anthologies for Vintage Books and Viking Penguin, many co-edited with Eric Lane. Under her nom de tween “Maya Gold,” she wrote the six-volume Cinderella Cleaners series and Spellbinding for Scholastic, and Harriet the Spy, Double Agent, a posthumous sequel to Louise Fitzhugh’s classic, for Delacorte.

Screen:  Writers Guild Award winner Labor of Love, with Marcia Gay Harden; Blind Spot, with Emmy-nominated Joanne Woodward and Laura Linney; Double Platinum, with Diana Ross; SHINE Award winner Unwed Father; and Suzi Yoonessi’s acclaimed short film No Shoulder, with Melissa Leo.

Stage:  ABC Playwright Award winner Homesteaders (Samuel French), Finger Foods and War at Home: Students Respond to 9/11, written with Nicole Quinn and 40 teens (Playscripts), Romeo/Juliet (Broadway Play Publishing).

Nina has profiled more than 200 writers for Chronogram, Poets & Writers, and Vassar Quarterly, and published stories and essays in Feckless Cunt: A Feminist Anthology, Love on the Road, Odd Shorts, Prima Materia, Riverine, and Tinker Street. She’s hosted author events at Word Cafe, Hudson Valley Writers Resist, Lydia’s Cafe, and The Golden Notebook Bookstore. She teaches creative writing at Vassar College, and has also taught at Manhattanville College, SUNY Ulster, University of Maine, Vermont College of Fine Arts, the Omega Institute, Writers in the Mountains, and at Equinoxe International screenwriting workshop in Bordeaux.

She lives in the foothills of New York’s Catskill Mountains, near the glorious Ashokan Reservoir.
